Did the New Democratic Congress Expand the Base

Many voters believed that the new Democratic majority elected in the mid-term election of 2006 would bring about change in Iraq policy and a new course for the White House. Instead, support of the Congress is at an all-time low and many in the Democratic party are questioning the leadership of Nancy Pelosi. While the Democrats clearly had great success in raising the minimum wage, increasing fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles, overhauling ethics and lobbying rules, instituting most homeland security recommedations of the 9/11 Commission and tightening mental-health background checks for gun buyers, the public, according to recently released polls, views the Congress less favorably now then when Republicans held both the White House and Congress. Do you believe the Democrats will be rewarded with more Senate and House seats in the 2008 election to assist it in moving the country where the voters want to go or will the Democratic party suffer because of the lack of a strong message and the feeling that a lame-duck president has out smarted the Democrats?
